What does it mean to eat well?

It sounds like a simple question. But the answer gets a little more complicated when we take food off the page and put it back where it belongs—in real life.

Because eating well isn’t only about nutrients.

It’s also about understanding what supports your body. Enjoying the food you eat. Working with your individual needs. Making choices that fit your actual life. And leaving room for culture, tradition, connection and the experiences that make food meaningful.

At Love Eat Crave Wellness, we think it’s all of it. ❤️

So this September, we’re going to explore what eating well can look like when we move beyond perfection and food rules and start building something more useful:

🌿 NOTICE what food provides and what your body needs.
🌿 BUILD meals with greater intention and confidence.
🌿 REIMAGINE familiar foods without removing everything that makes them worth eating.
🌿 ADAPT what you know to the life you’re actually living.

There will be food literacy, practical tools, seasonal ingredients, recipes, real-life meals, and yes…there will absolutely be pasta. 🤭

The goal isn’t to teach you how to eat exactly like me.

It’s to help you understand nourishment well enough to build something that works for you.

September starts tomorrow. Let’s eat well—and live well while we’re doing it. ❤️🌿

What does it mean to eat well?

It sounds like such a simple question.

But depending on who you ask, you may get a completely different answer.

Is it choosing nutrient-dense foods?

Cooking at home?

Eating more fruits and vegetables?

Building balanced meals?

Avoiding certain foods?

Or is there more to “eating well” than what's nutritionally on the plate?

I've been thinking a lot about this question lately as I prepare something new for September at Love Eat Crave Wellness.

Because most of us don't eat on paper.

We eat in real life.

When we're busy. When we're tired. When we're celebrating. When we're traveling. When someone we love cooks for us. Around tables with family and friends. With foods connected to our cultures, traditions and memories.

So before I tell you what I think it means to eat well, I want to hear from you.

When you hear “eat well,” what does it mean to you?

There are no right answers. I'm genuinely curious. ❤️

Sometimes the stories we write find their way somewhere we never expected. ❤️

Earlier this month, I shared "I Almost Talked Myself Out of It" in The Journal—a reflection on our day at Mt. Baker, but really, a story about something much bigger:

choosing to experience the life that's happening right in front of us.

This week, John D'Onofrio of AdventuresNW reached out after reading it and asked if he could share the story with their readers.

Today, I'm incredibly grateful to see it featured in AdventuresNW, accompanied by John's breathtaking photography of the mountain that inspired it.

It's a pretty special first for Love Eat Crave Wellness—our first Journal story to find a home beyond our own platform. 🌿

If you haven't read it yet, you can find the AdventuresNW feature here:

And perhaps its reminder is worth carrying into the rest of this week:

Not every meaningful moment arrives when it's convenient. Sometimes we simply have to choose to show up for it.

The weather wasn't ideal. The views weren't guaranteed. Before I left home, I made myself a promise:

There’s no single formula for taking care of yourself.

What supports one person—or one family—may not support another. And what supports us can change depending on the season of life we’re in.

Meals, movement, rest and everyday routines don’t have to look a certain way to “count.”

Maybe the better question isn’t What should I be doing?

Maybe it’s:

What actually supports me right now?

That’s a question worth coming back to. 🌿

Back-to-school season has a way of making us feel like we need to get everything back in order.

Breakfast figured out. Lunches packed. Water bottles filled. Bedtimes adjusted. Practice schedules managed.

But maybe the goal isn’t to build the perfect routine.

Maybe the better question is:

What do we want our routines to support?

In my newest article, I’m looking beyond schedules and checklists to talk about fueling growing bodies and minds, creating routines your family can actually live with, and something I think matters deeply: giving our kids a seat at the table as we build those routines.

Because ultimately, we’re not just creating systems for them. We’re helping them gradually build the awareness and skills to care for themselves.

I’d love to know: What part of your family’s routine feels like it needs the most support right now?

Friday, I shared the 64-second version of this story.

This is the part that wouldn’t fit in the film.

I almost talked myself out of going to Mt. Baker that day.

The weather wasn’t ideal. The views weren’t guaranteed. And somewhere along the way, I had decided that maybe the responsible thing was to stay home.

But I went.

And what stayed with me wasn’t simply what I saw.

It was what the day reminded me about expectations, wonder, presence—and how easy it is to postpone experiencing our lives while we’re waiting for the conditions to feel right.

“I Almost Talked Myself Out of It” is now in The Journal. 🍃

If you’ve ever almost said no to something because it didn’t look exactly the way you’d imagined, this one is for you.

I almost talked myself out of it.

The weather wasn’t ideal. The views weren’t guaranteed. And honestly, staying comfortable would have been easier.

But something in me needed to go anyway.

So I kept climbing.

And somewhere between the fog, the wind, the wildflowers, and a mountain that kept disappearing into the clouds, I remembered something:

I didn’t need to get anywhere.
I just needed to be there.

There’s a kind of wonder that asks nothing from us except that we notice it. And maybe that’s part of wellness, too—not constantly trying to improve our lives, but actually being present enough to experience them.

Because life doesn’t happen later.

It happens now.

And sometimes, it begins with choosing to experience the life you already have.

There’s more to this story. 🍃
I’ll share the full story Sunday.

There are moments in our lives that don’t announce themselves as important.

The coffee gets cold while we’re talking.
Light moves across the room.
Someone we love says something that makes us laugh.
A flower somehow grows out of a place we would have walked right past.

Nothing extraordinary happened.

And yet, we were there for it.

Living well isn’t always about becoming better, doing more, or getting everything right. Sometimes it’s simply about being present enough to notice the life that’s already happening.

In this moment… what are you experiencing?

— Living Well, On Purpose 🤍

10/08/2026

What if living well didn’t require doing more?

I think sometimes we become so focused on improving our lives that we forget to actually experience them.
We look for the next habit to build, the next thing to fix, the next routine to perfect—and meanwhile, some of the things that make a life feel full are already happening around us.
Morning light through the window.
A meal we actually enjoy. A walk outside. Someone we love beside us. A moment that makes us stop and look twice.
Not because those things solve everything.
But because noticing our lives is part of caring for them, too.
This month at Love Eat Crave Wellness, we’re exploring what it means to live well on purpose—not by doing everything perfectly, but by becoming a little more aware of what supports us, what matters to us, and what’s already here.
We’re starting somewhere simple:
Notice the little things.
You don’t need to change anything today.
Just notice.

What’s one little thing you noticed today that you might normally have missed?
