Happy Fresh Veggies Day! 🥦🥕

I know that if you have braces, looking at a platter of raw vegetables can feel less like a celebration and more like a total minefield. Biting straight into a raw carrot or a corn on the cob is pretty much a one-way ticket to an emergency orthodontist appointment. ❌🦷

But you definitely don’t have to skip the greens just because you have brackets. You just have to change up how you prep them. Here is how I handle it:

Go fork-tender: The easiest workaround is just to cook them. Steaming, boiling, or roasting things like broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots makes them super soft and safe, plus roasted veggies taste amazing.

The grater is your best friend: If you really want that raw crunch in a salad, use a cheese grater to finely shred carrots or radishes.

Ditch the cob: Never bite directly into corn. Just use a knife to slice the kernels off first.

Keep it bite-sized: For raw cucumbers or bell peppers, dice them up into tiny pieces instead of big strips, and chew them carefully using your back teeth.

When in doubt, blend: Tossing a handful of spinach or kale into a fruit smoothie is the ultimate zero-risk way to get your nutrients in.

Good news: YES, you absolutely can! While we might tell you to steer clear of the sticky, hard, or super chewy treats (looking at you, caramel-filled and apple fritters), a nice, soft glazed donut or a classic cake donut is totally safe for your brackets and wires.

It’s all about balance and knowing how to treat that sweet tooth without throwing a wrench in your smile journey. Just promise your dentist that you'll give those teeth a extra thorough brush and floss afterward to keep your progress on track! 🪥✨
