When my kids were 3 and 5, I decided to become a yoga teacher.
Great timing, right?
I'd just lost my dad. I'd had my third miscarriage. I couldn't recognize myself anymore. Not in the mirror, but in every other way that matters. I was running on autopilot and calling it "fine."
I didn't start teaching because I was strong. I started because I was falling apart and yoga was the only thing that caught me.
That's still what I think about every time someone new walks through the door. I'm not looking at whether she can touch her toes. I'm thinking about what she's carrying and whether this room can help her put some of it down.
It usually can. That's why I do this.
