We champion independence through innovative, life-enhancing services and communities. For nearly 150 years, Inglis has provided services and programs designed to maximize the independence of adults with physical disabilities, at Inglis House, in more than a dozen housing communities in the region and through community-based services across Pennsylvania. Our mission is to enable people with disabilities – and those who care for them – to achieve their goals and live life to the fullest. Today, Inglis serves more than 2,000 individuals annually. Safe, accessible sidewalks aren’t simply a convenience; they’re an essential part of creating communities where everyone can navigate with greater independence.

Pittsburgh Walks and the city’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure are working to document dilapidated sidewalk conditions across the city, with volunteers surveying thousands of blocks. Pittsburgh also has programs focused on filling critical sidewalk gaps and helping low-income property owners make needed repairs, with funding dedicated to sidewalk and ramp improvements.

As Inglis continues to grow our work and partnerships in Western Pennsylvania, efforts like these reinforce the importance of building accessibility into the entire community, not just individual homes.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and to celebrate, we'll be taking a look at some of the participants and programs with Community Integrated Services over the course of the month! There's no better place to start than with CIS participant Harry Worrell

Harry was recently named the 2026 Olive Garden Team Member of the Year, an honor awarded to just one team member nationwide. Since joining Olive Garden in 2016, Harry’s dedication and commitment have made a lasting impact on his workplace.

Harry’s story is a powerful example of what inclusive employment can look like: meaningful opportunities, growing independence, and employees being recognized for the value they bring every day.
