17 years ago I was sitting in a dunking donuts, hadn't showered in days, was frazzled but enjoying quiet and good conversation with one of my besties. Mid stuffing my face with probably my 4th donut I got a call. That call changed our life forever. It was the agency we had been matched with our birth mother through and they were calling to say the baby was here....but there were some really crazy circumstances. We jumped in the car and I listened while my bestie drove and frantically text CJ to tell him to come meet us at the house. The agency explained all that was happening and told us they understood if we needed to back out and that it was completely understandable....the details are only for Keane to share some day because its his story to tell. CJ and I stood in our besties kitchen and said we just know we have to get on a plane and go see if this is our baby. It doesn't seem like a safe sure thing and we may get back on a plane for a second time with no baby in our arms, but we have to go and see. We literally had nothing packed, we were both a disaster, but we threw clothes in a bag and rushed to get on the first plane that could get us to Utah. We arrived and drove pretty fast to the hospital. Our agency met us there and told us we would be taken right to the nursery first because the birth mother we had been matched with said she wanted the little boy she had just delivered to meet his parents first.....ARE YOU KIDDING ME, amazing. We walked in and a nurse picked up this tiny 5.5 lb little boy with jet black hair and the most beautiful milky chocolate skin and placed him in CJ's arms. Tears began to flow...this was our son. All the stress and what ifs and crazies of his entrance of this world melted away. This boy, this precious boy was ours and the brave woman we met the following minutes captured our hearts as well. How I've gotten 17 years with you is just mind blowing to me. You are fierce, hilarious, inappropriate in the best ways, love Jesus, your family and your friends so fiercely. I cannot wait to keep watching you grow into the freaking awesome man you are becoming!! Love you somethin fierce kid. Happy bday Keane Malichi.

I wanted to share a small win in my healing journey. 🤍
