Hi there! We’re excited to share two upcoming events 👇

🗓 Nutrition Didactic Event
Join us Tuesday, March 31st (6–7 PM) for an interactive session with our Nutrition & Didactic Interns, Murphy White and Selina Zhang, on food partnerships and practical nutrition tips for street rounds. Snacks will be provided!

On Saturday, April 4th (1–4 PM), we’re partnering with SNMA to provide medical care, veterinary services, and STI testing/counseling for the community.

March 30th is National Doctors’ Day, and we recognize and thank the incredible physicians who support Street Medicine at Pitt. 🩺 We are especially grateful to our Medical Director, Dr. Anna Marie White, and Assistant Medical Director, Dr. Max Hurwitz. They consistently match our members’ enthusiasm and approach problem-solving with equal curiosity and dedication, supporting our growth and fostering our critical thinking through their unwavering support. We’re so lucky to have you both 💛💙

Today we are celebrating our incredible Medical Director, Dr. Anna Maire White, who was recently recognized with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Social Justice Education Award at the Curriculum Colloquium 2026. Street Medicine at Pitt is immensely grateful for Dr. White. Each and every day, she leads by example with her kindness and fierce dedication to helping others. She continues to guide and inspire students, encouraging us to think critically through her unwavering support and mentorship. Tuesday, February 24 is Pitt Day of Giving 💙

What started as a small group of students united by a shared passion has grown into a multidisciplinary (and even international!) community committed to caring for our unhoused neighbors across Pittsburgh.

In 2025, Street Medicine at Pitt:
• Documented 671 unique encounters
• Expanded to 13 rounding sites
• Distributed 4,176 meals
• Welcomed students + faculty from 34 disciplines
• Published 3 peer-reviewed publications

Throughout the winter months, Street Medicine at Pitt continues to care for people experiencing homelessness through multiple avenues of outreach. Every week, SM@P clinicians provide medical care to folks seeking shelter at the Department of Human Services Winter Shelter. Operating from November through March, the winter shelter offers both a warm dinner and a safe place to sleep. Our clinicians, resident physicians, and student volunteers further support the efforts of the shelter staff by offering triage care in addition to referrals to further medical care, when necessary. This past Friday, our incredible SM@P pharmacists, Dr. Castelli and Klatt, hosted a vaccination clinic in addition to supporting medical coverage at the shelter. Note: (As always!) Congratulations, Arabella! 💙💛 The University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health held its annual Public Health Practice Showcase this past December. Street Medicine at Pitt is proud to recognize Arabella Johnson (MPH BCHS ’26), who received the Director’s Award for her project, Centering Community Voice: Addressing Menstrual Health Needs Among Women Experiencing Homelessness in Pittsburgh, PA. Through this work, Arabella utilized community narratives to better understand and assess the menstrual health needs of women experiencing homelessness in our area. She then prepared and distributed menstrual health kits informed directly by survey feedback. Thank you, Arabella, for being such a fierce advocate for folks in our community! Street Medicine at Pitt is incredibly lucky to have you as a member of our board.⚕️

Last spring, the Medical Library Association (MLA) held its annual conference in Pittsburgh, PA, welcoming over 1,000 attendees both in person and remotely to highlight innovations and foster collaboration among health information experts. Street Medicine at Pitt was grateful to be selected as the service project recipient for the MLA ’25 conference. During the conference, three members of Street Medicine at Pitt: Helena Oft, Ronit Deshpande, and Megan Stafford, had the opportunity to represent SM@P and engage with attendees through a panel. We are deeply appreciative of MLA ’25 attendees and the broader health sciences librarian community for their support of our work. 🌟 Student Spotlight 🌟

We’ve been so fortunate to have Delaney Seaton with us these past few weeks as part of her Community & Public Health Nutrition Rotation in the University of Pittsburgh | School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Dietitian Nutritionist Program (Year 3, Master’s year).

Delaney joined our interdisciplinary Street Rounds and also led a nutrition education session at the Second Avenue Commons Outreach Center with individuals experiencing homelessness. Participants learned about the MyPlate framework through discussion and then created their own balanced charcuterie plates—choosing foods that fit into each category. 🥦🍎🧀🥖
