Today I sat on the floor of Hobby Lobby and breastfed my 4-month-old baby.

And honestly? Six years ago, I never would have imagined being this comfortable.

With my first baby, I breastfed under a cover… in the Arizona heat… because I thought that was what I was supposed to do.

Today was different.

My baby was fussy, so I picked her up and fed her.

Right there on the floor.

No hiding. No overheating under a blanket. No shame.

Just a hungry baby and her mama.

Of course, she’s also in that hilariously nosy stage where every sound is apparently more important than eating. 😂 The store announced they were closing, she popped off to investigate. Someone talked, she had to look. Then she’d turn back toward me smiling like this whole situation was the funniest thing in the world while I’m desperately trying to convince her to please finish eating before flashing the entire Hobby Lobby.

My cousin snapped this picture without me even realizing it.

And I’m so glad she did.

Because when I look at it, I don’t just see myself sitting on a store floor breastfeeding.

I see growth.

I see the mom I was six years ago, nervous and covering herself, and the mom I am today who understands just how normal this really is.

My body made this baby.

Now my body makes the milk that nourishes her, comforts her, and helps her grow.

Sometimes I’ll literally feel my letdown while I’m in the shower and come out asking, “Is the baby hungry?” 😂 That connection between a mother and her baby still amazes me.

So thank you to every breastfeeding mother who shared her story, posted her picture, fed her baby openly and helped another mom realize she didn’t have to hide.

Because somewhere, another nervous new mom is watching.

And maybe seeing us will help her feel a little more comfortable too. 🤍

This is what normalization looks like. One mother feeding her baby without apology.
