May is National Physiotherapy Month!

We are proud to announce that this year, one of our Physiotherapists, Amanda Petrie has been recognized with the Award of Merit for Clinical Excellence through the Saskatchewan Physiotherapy Association! This award is given out in recognition of clinical expertise and contributions to the Physiotherapy profession.

Amanda has spent her career developing her skills and expertise within the field of Vestibular Therapy which focuses on the assessment and treatment of dizziness and/or imbalance conditions.
Not only has she utilized these skills for the benefit of her patients, but she has been hard at work innovating to develop a comprehensive treatment pathway in Saskatchewan, recognizing the current gaps that exist in access to care. We at Rebalance could not be prouder of what Amanda does for our community and look forward to her ongoing leadership in bringing healthcare practitioners and other disciplines together to improve patient outcomes in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan for patients with vestibular issues.

JOCELYN KRIEG, Physiotherapist

Rebalance Physio is excited to announce that Jocelyn will be joining our team starting April 14, 2026!

Jocelyn completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Master of Physical Therapy degrees at the University of Saskatchewan. She also has certification as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology.

Jocelyn has been working in private practice in a multidisciplinary setting where she was able to work with a range of clients. From children to seniors, from athletes to weekend warriors, to those being introduced to exercise for the first time, she has guided a diverse range of clients, tailoring care to meet each individual’s unique needs and goals.

Jocelyn believes in the principle of exercise as medicine and enjoys analyzing and improving movement patterns. Her approach focuses not only on relieving symptoms, but on identifying underlying body mechanics to help her clients move better and feel stronger. She continues to build her expertise through ongoing training and courses and has a special interest in working in women’s health. She is passionate about giving her clients the tools they need to manage their symptoms independently so they can achieve their goals.

Jocelyn also continues to contributes to the development of a renowned exercise prescription software founded by Physiotherapists in Saskatoon, applying her clinical experience to help support rehabilitation across a variety of settings.

When not in the clinic Jocelyn can be found outside, at the lake, in her garden, making soup, and spending time with family and friends. She enjoys sharing an active lifestyle with her husband and kids and wants to help you do the same.

Jocelyn is licensed with the Saskatchewan College of Physical Therapists.

VESTIBULAR THERAPY for dizziness and/or imbalance
 
The Vestibular System is a collection of sensory organs and structures that help the body estimate position and motion. It combines information from the inner ear, joints and tissues of the neck & legs, as well as vision to accurately keep our balance and orientation in space. This means that the vestibular system is crucial to controlling our posture both at rest and when moving.

Normally, the signals from the vestibular system provide accurate information to the brain, which is processed into a seamless experience during daily life. When this is disrupted, moving through space can become very difficult with a significant negative impact on an individual’s quality of life.

Dizziness and vertigo are one of the most common complaints in medical practice, affecting ~20-30% of the population throughout their lifetime.

Dizziness is often classified into four main groups:
* Vertigo: Sensation of self-motion or motion of the external environment when no movement is occurring
* Objective vertigo: Objects in the room appear to move
* Subjective vertigo: Sensation of spinning feels within the patient’s head
* Unsteadiness: Sensation of being unstable in sitting, standing, and/or walking
* Lightheadedness: Sensation of distorted spatial orientation and/or sensation of giddiness
* Pre-syncope: Sensation of feeling faint

Rebalance Physio and Dizziness Centre wants to share more of what we know about Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD) & Jaw Therapy.

TMD is a group of conditions that can cause jaw, neck, face, and/or headache pain. There may also be associated symptoms in the ear such as fullness or tinnitus (ringing).

Jaw disorders can significantly impact quality of life in various ways including sleeping, eating, work, and recreation. Multidisciplinary treatment including Physiotherapy can assist with diagnosis, education, and treatment to help achieve your individual goals.

Temporomandibular Dysfunction (TMD)/ Jaw Disorders
 
TMD is not a single condition but an umbrella term that refers to a collection of symptoms and changes that can lead to dysfunction and pain. It is difficult to say just how many people are affected by TMD, but current estimates place it between 10-15% of adults, the majority of whom do not seek treatment.

Symptoms with TMD vary and can include pain or tightness in the jaw, face, neck, shoulder, and/or head. The jaw may pop, click, crack, or even lock with the opening or closing of the mouth. There may also be associated ear fullness/pressure or tinnitus (ringing), change in facial sensation, eye strain or pressure, tooth pain and/or headaches.

A comprehensive assessment by a trained Physiotherapist can determine the most appropriate treatment for your individual needs. Physio can help!

Migraine Management is the comprehensive assessment and collaborative treatment of migraine and headache conditions. Migraine Therapy can help!

Rebalance Physio and Dizziness Centre is excited to announce the official launch of Migraine Therapy!

Migraine is more than just a severe headache. It is recognized as a chronic neurological condition that typically features a throbbing, often one-sided headache that worsens with usual physical activity. In Canada it is estimated to be approximately 14% of the adult population, with over 5 million people affected both during their migraine episodes and between episodes.

Everyone is different, both in their history, their triggers, and the effect that migraine has on their lives. This can make it complicated, but there is hope! With the right supports and a comprehensive plan, change is possible.

Booking is available now, with more information coming to our website soon.

Physiotherapist, Trent Rempel, has been busy gathering the information, tools, and connections to help people living with migraine find their next steps and move forward. Trent is looking forward to helping people make a plan for their Migraine journey!
