WHERE IS YOUR ENERGY GOING?
A Taoist perspective on modern energy leaks!
In Taoist medicine, health isn't just about creating more energy, it's about protecting the energy you already have.
Imagine trying to fill a bucket while water is pouring out through holes in the bottom. No amount of supplements, treatments, coffee, or motivation can fully compensate for constant energy loss.
Some of the most common energy leaks in modern life include:
• Poor sleep or irregular sleep patterns
• Constant stress and overthinking
• Skipping meals or eating highly processed foods
• Too much sugar, alcohol, or caffeine
• Living in a permanent state of "busy"
• Excessive screen time and information overload
• Unresolved emotions that are continually carried rather than processed
• Lack of rest, recovery, and quiet time
• Pushing through exhaustion instead of listening to the body's signals
• Relationships and environments that leave you feeling drained
In Taoist understanding, energy (Qi) is precious. Before we focus on building vitality, we first need to stop wasting it.
True vitality comes from:
Deep, restorative sleep
Nourishing food
Calm breathing
Time in nature
Healthy boundaries
Meaningful movement like qigong
Moments of stillness and meditation
Sometimes the most powerful healing isn't adding something new. It's identifying what is quietly draining you and gently closing the leak.
Ask yourself:
What is currently costing me the most energy, and what small change could I make this week to protect it?
The Retreat Supporting health, balance, and vitality through holistic therapies and traditional wisdom.

I do wish the 'medical profession' would choose a stance on alternative remedies. So on researching on the net, you are advised ( by drug companies) that remedies aren't effective and are placebos, and you should only deal with your doctor for drugs to help treat post op bruising and pain. However, the same doctors who tell you alternative medicine is " just a placebo" also warn you not to take any of these placebo before surgery because it seems, they do actually do something... funny isn't it...

As we step into June, we move deeper into the season of Summer in Chinese Medicine, the season of the Fire Element.
Fire is the energy of warmth, joy, connection, passion, and the spirit, known as the Shen. Just as nature reaches towards its fullest expression, we too are invited to open our hearts and allow our authentic selves to be seen.
The Heart is the sovereign of all the organs in Chinese Medicine. It houses the Shen, our consciousness, spirit, and ability to experience joy. When the Heart is balanced, we feel connected, inspired, present, and at ease within ourselves.
June's energy encourages us to ask:
What brings genuine joy to my life? Where am I being called to open my heart? Am I allowing myself to be fully present in this season?
As the days grow longer and the light increases, Fire energy naturally rises. This is a wonderful time to spend time outdoors, with friends, express creativity, move the body, and nourish meaningful connections.
Yet Chinese Medicine also reminds us that balance is key. Too much Fire can lead to restlessness, overwhelm, anxiety, poor sleep, or feeling scattered. The invitation is not to burn brighter, but to burn steadily.
This month, nourish your Heart by:
Spending time in nature, Practising meditation or mindfulness ,Connecting with people who uplift you , Prioritising rest alongside activity , Taking moments each day to experience simple joy.
Like the summer sun, you do not need to force your light. Simply allow it to shine.
May June bring a calm heart, a settled spirit, and the courage to live from a place of authenticity and joy.
Welcome to the season of Fire. Welcome to June. #

Tshering Namdruk — The Six Symbols of Longevity

A Sacred Wish for Long Life, Health, Prosperity & Wisdom

In Tibetan Buddhism, the 6 symbols are among the most beloved and auspicious offerings, gifted to bless loved ones with a long, healthy, peaceful, and meaningful life.

Each symbol carries a profound blessing:

**Cranes** — long life, wisdom, and fidelity; messengers of longevity soaring between heaven and earth
Treasure Vase abundance, spiritual wealth, and nectar of immortality and wellbeing
Deer longevity, peace, and compassion; gentle beings living in perfect harmony with nature
Lotus purity, spiritual awakening, and the triumph over suffering; blooming beautifully even in muddy water
Endless Knot endless wisdom, compassion, and the interconnection of all things; no beginning, no end
Conch Shell the spread of enlightening teachings; the sacred sound awakening beings from ignorance

Together they form a complete blessing:
Long Life
Health
Prosperity
Peace
Wisdom
Spiritual Growth

These six sacred symbols are traditionally offered during birthdays, anniversaries, and important life events.

May you live long. May you live well. May your life be filled with meaning, joy, and the light of wisdom.

Extreme heat advice isn’t one-size-fits-all.
Sports drinks, electrolyte sachets and adding salt to water can absolutely help some people especially after heavy sweating, endurance exercise, vomiting, diarrhoea or physical labour. But more electrolytes are not always better.
For some people, too much salt or electrolyte supplementation can actually make symptoms worse.
Things to consider in extreme heat:
• Not everyone is losing the same amount of salt
• Some people mainly need fluids and cooling, not extra sodium
• Excess electrolytes may aggravate high blood pressure, kidney issues, fluid retention, dizziness or headaches in sensitive individuals
• Sugary sports drinks can increase dehydration in some cases if relied on constantly
• Chugging large amounts of plain water OR electrolyte drinks too quickly can both create imbalance
Signs your body may need support beyond “just drink electrolytes”:
• Persistent dizziness
• Swelling or puffiness
• Nausea
• Racing heart
• Confusion
• Muscle cramps
• Extreme fatigue
• Dark urine or no sweating
• Feeling worse after electrolyte drinks
In traditional holistic systems, heat affects everybody differently.
Some people become dry and depleted.
Others become inflamed, swollen, agitated or “damp.”
The answer is not always more salt.
Sometimes the body needs:
• Cooling foods
• Mineral-rich hydration from fruits and broths
• Rest and shade
• Nervous system regulation
• Smaller regular fluid intake
• Proper medical assessment if symptoms become severe
Listen to your body, not marketing or advice from unqualified 'wellness mentors'.
Hydration should be personalised.
If you experience severe heat symptoms, chest pain, fainting, confusion or difficulty breathing, seek urgent medical care.

Green Tara is a fully enlightened female Buddha and a powerful bodhisattva in Tibetan Buddhism. Revered as the "Mother of Liberation," she embodies enlightened compassion and swift action. She is often called upon to overcome obstacles, alleviate suffering, and protect beings from worldly dangers.
Green Tara is easily recognizable by her distinct physical posture and attributes:
The Color Green: Her emerald hue symbolizes active, swift compassion and the karma family of enlightened activity.
Readiness to Help: Her right leg is slightly extended, signifying her readiness to step off her lotus throne and leap to the aid of those who call upon her.
Hands and Mudras: Her right hand rests on her knee in the gesture of granting generosity (varada mudra). Her left hand holds the stem of a blossoming lotus flower near her ear.
According to Buddhist lore, she was born from the tears of the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Avalokiteshvara. As he wept over the suffering of the world, his tears formed a lake from which two lotuses emerged. Green Tara arose from the white and green lotus as an ultimate, fearless savior.
Practitioners frequently chant her mantra to invoke her protection, wisdom, and blessings:
Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha
