Did you know that cheese can actually help prevent cavities?

Cheese is rich in calcium and phosphate, helps neutralize acids, and boosts saliva... all of which protect your enamel 🙌

Best choices? Hard cheeses like cheddar, gouda, and Swiss are the most beneficial.

Avoid processed cheese products (like cheese spreads). They often contain additives and sugars that don’t offer the same benefits.

So go ahead, enjoy a small piece of real cheese after meals for a smile-friendly snack!

Check your brush!

If your toothbrush looks frayed, you're probably brushing too hard!

➡️ For effective brushing, use a soft or extra-soft brush and gently massage your teeth, letting the bristles reach just below the gumline 😇

➡️ Apply light pressure - think of it like wiping a foggy mirror, not scrubbing a dirty floor 🧼

➡️ If you can’t ease up, try an electric toothbrush. The vibrating or spinning action is gentler on your gums and enamel than aggressive brushing 😬

Following up on World No To***co Day, remember va**ng isn’t harmless—especially for your oral health. It can dry out your mouth, increase your risk of cavities, irritate your gums, and expose you to harmful chemicals—even if it’s seen as a “safer” option. Youth and young adults are especially at risk, with higher use impacts. Dental hygienists play a key role in educating patients, spotting early damage, and supporting healthier choices.

Canada's dental hygienists support this important advocacy work.

High youth va**ng rates threaten to undo decades of success in to***co control in Canada.

Smoking rates across the country have fallen by about 80% over the past 70 years. However, many teens who would never have smoked are becoming addicted to ni****ne – driven by flavoured vapes.

Va**ng is not harmless, especially for young people. Research shows a long list of proven harms, from respiratory problems to risk of heart disease and mental health issues.

Without action, we risk losing hard-won progress. That’s why Heart & Stroke is calling on the government to strengthen protections for youth.
