May 6th is Maternal Mental Health Awareness day 💛🕯️
Tonight I’m holding space for the mothers carrying more than anyone can see.
The lyrics “Hold on, hold on my dear one, hold on here comes the dawn” by Heidi Wilson felt especially close to my heart today.
In BC, maternal mental health struggles affect approximately 1 in 4 mothers and families, yet so many continue to suffer in silence without the support they deserve. We need more services, more awareness, more compassion, and more accessible postpartum care for mothers who are trying to hold everything together while quietly struggling inside.
Music and has been one of the ways I move through hard moments ; singing, breathing, feeling, releasing.
Sometimes it looks like lighting a candle and choosing to hold on for one more day.
If you are struggling, please know you are not alone. 💛
And if you are able to make your way to one of my singing mamas groups, you will be welcomed with open arms, without judgment, and with understanding.
I also want to acknowledge the incredible work being done by Pacific Post Partum Support Society, who provide free and low-cost phone, text, online, and in-person support groups for new parents across BC.
Learn more or reach out for support.
And a huge thank you to .her.circle for the fundraising and advocacy work they are doing to help create greater access to postpartum support for mothers who need it most.
Hold on, dear one. Dawn is coming. 🕯️✨
