One of my biggest challenges is finding just one thing to concentrate my training on but Yin yoga and fascia work keep creeping out in front.

If you take my yin classes I hope you can feel the love and admiration I have for this style of yoga and for those who honour their health with regular practice and I hope my continued training can filter into my students.

You can find me every Tuesday and Friday evening at Shine Yoga Studio in Belper or in Mickleover for one-to-one bespoke yoga classes.

Right now, it’s the in between. Friday morning after waking but before rising. Mel Robbins and her five second rule can sod off, It’s bliss here. I almost forgot how peaceful it is to simply be in the moment.

Life has felt rushed for so long now but never more so than the online world. Listening to Youtubers and TikTokers in the modern world I feels like I’m listening to the quick-fire round of a game show. Nobody speaks slowly anymore. I get the impression that most online creators think that if they don’t speak at the speed of light they will be left behind. Maybe they will.

In conversations I feel that I am expected to answer questions before I have even drawn breath or risk being seen as too slow and void of opinion. There is, it seems, no longer time to collect thoughts and construct a thoughtful answer. If I don’t hit the quick-fire buzzer first, I’m out of the conversation.

The world moves so fast now and I fear it is leaving me as a walking head, living from my lizard brain impulses rather than taking time to feel things in my body, this takes far too long in the online world, I will be scrolled away into the dregs of social media failure if I take too long to entertain the troops.

This lack of connection with my body will only make me more susceptible to AI, fake news and rage bate. My impulsive decisions will rule me if I don’t make some changes to bolster my autonomy.

So I’m embracing the pause. The moments between the statement and the reaction, the pause between sleep and awake, the breath between seeing something and wondering if it is even real or worth my reaction.

My yin practice is invaluable to keep me grounded in the modern world. Allowing myself to take time to process how my body and mind feel and to pause between these feelings and allow my body to absorb.

Wait for me, join me or leave me behind, I care not. I will try to be the change I wish to see in the world and hope that one day we all press the pause button and not the quick-fire button.

Join me for the pause at Belper Shine Yoga Studio on Tuesday and Friday evenings.
