Update: surgery is over and all went without a hitch! Headed home later this afternoon! 💛

It’s a big day - Maxson’s port is COMING OUT TODAY!!!! Praying for a quick, smooth procedure in the OR and an uneventful wake-up (he tends to be angry…this kid…angry?!?- it’s so weird.)

Huge milestone! Let’s gooooo!

Today was a beautiful day to unveil Louisville’s newest Hometown Hero and Max’s favorite, former University of Louisville Baseball catcher and Los Angeles Dodgers #16 Will Smith.

Words will never be enough to express our gratitude for the kindness shown to Max by Will and his family, not just in the good times, but during the darkest and roughest days of Max’s journey.

⚾️ Will sent a video five days after Max’s first brain surgery. It was the first smile we’d seen and I remember going into the bathroom and crying with relief afterward that Max had smiled.

⚾️ He arranged for Max to stay with the team and be a part of the Reds v. Dodgers series in 2024, bringing smiles and laughter two weeks after his last round of chemo. Max was at one of his lowest points emotionally and physically, and a distraction was so sorely needed.

⚾️ He brought Max to LA to see a game against the Giants on his 14th birthday. He got a behind-the-scenes tour of Dodger Stadium, a huge bag of swag, a ball signed by the team and time on the field before the game. It was a day he will never, ever forget.

From video messages during the most trying times to giving this kiddo something to work toward and look forward to, Will Smith will never truly understand the impact he’s had on my child’s life. For that, I am eternally grateful.

There is NO ONE more deserving of a hometown hero designation than this man. Always selfless, always kind, always humble. Thank you, Will Smith.
